The Chapman Building at the University of Salford is a striking contemporary education facility featuring a distinctive façade of corten steel expanded metal mesh.

Working in conjunction with James and Taylor, The Expanded Metal Company manufactured the mesh used across the exterior of the building.

The warm tones of the corten steel mesh give the building a strong identity, with the façade responding to changing light conditions and viewing angles. The mesh also allows natural ventilation and visibility.

The project demonstrates how expanded metal mesh can be used within the education sector to create visually distinctive buildings that balance aesthetics with practical performance.
